Ospreys

Welcome to Ospreys

Ospreys are a mixed Year 5 and 6 class. Our teachers are Mrs White (also head of school) and Mrs Girdwood. Mrs Brooker is our teaching assistant and Mrs Burleigh teaches us French, music and art.

Kilmington school promotes positive learning behaviours which are represented through four animals. Samuel Squirrel encourages curiosity and making links across learning; Betty Bee helps us to collaborate, work as a team and have empathy towards each other; Wilbur Woodpecker helps us to stay motivated, persevere with tasks and therefore achieve higher, and Olive Owl encourages us to plan and think things through. If we show that we are using these learning behaviours, we earn certificates which are given out each week in assemblies.

As we are the oldest in the school, we set positive role models for the younger children who we share our playtimes with. There is plenty of equipment to keep us busy at playtimes and this is updated regularly. Year 6 children have the opportunity to be play time monitors where we organise and initiate games for younger children to play.

We are encouraged to be independent, motivated and creative thinkers. Our curriculum allows for links to be made across subjects and is enriched through regular outdoor learning opportunities, school trips, visitors to the school and a residential trip. Throughout the year, a variety of after school clubs are offered, for example, craft club, environment and choir.  We play a range of sports in PE lessons which includes swimming and tennis at the local secondary school.
